Coralville is one of the best places to live in Iowa. It has excellent schools, affordable housing, and a low commute time. However, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

The city wants to rework 5th Street and revamp its civic spaces in S.T. Morrison Park and front of its municipal buildings. A great post ahead.

Tennis Courts

Morrison Park has a playground, tennis courts, ball fields, a fishing pond, and picnic shelters. It’s also home to the Coralville Community Aquatic Center. This year, a new addition is QuickStart Tennis. It helps kids learn the game using smaller courts, lower equipment, and slower balls.

Coralville’s 5th Street will be reworked soon, but the city is also working to revamp its civic spaces in S.T. Morrison Park and in front of city buildings along the corridor. Shive-Hattery is handling the road project while Confluence is handling the civic space plan. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. This will include a new gateway sign.

Fishing Pond

The park has a fishing pond where you can catch your dinner or enjoy the scenic surroundings. Fishing is free and there are several different types of fish in the pond. It’s the perfect place to spend some time with your family or friends.

The pond has a new shelter area, a canopy-covered fitness station, and a fix-it station for bikes. It also has two lake overlook areas with seating and a dry stream bed that allows lake overflow to go into Morrison Creek.

Coralville wants to rework 5th Street, which connects City Hall and the library with S.T. Morrison Park and other prominent civic spaces. The project would improve the street for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Playground

The park has a lot to offer families and friends. There are fields, ponds, and even a playground. They also host several classes and programs.

When it comes to shopping Coralville offers big-box stores and services at the massive Coral Ridge Mall. You can also check out the NHL-sized ice rink and movie theater there.
